Sheep rustling on the rise as recession bites

Record numbers of Scots sheep are being stolen by rustlers. Farmers Union insurers NFU Mutual say 38,000 sheep have been stolen from farms across Britain since January – matching the total for all of 2010. With prices now averaging around £75 a head, thefts north of the Border doubled in the past two years. Now fed-up farmers are using CCTV cameras in a bid to catch thieves. David Renwick, of Dundonnell, Wester Ross, said: “It may seem an extreme measure but we are losing a lot of money.”
